The history of Turkey is one that began to be written with teh history of the Great Ottoman Empire, the history of the civilizations that passed from the West to East through Turkey, a border to both civilizations, and nucleus for the Ottoman Empire, one of the greatest in history. The history of what we know a Turkey today goes back to the paleolithic era, specifically to the Karain Cave. It is located in the Turkish Anatolia. This is where the first neolithic settlements were found and then incremented during the neolithic age. Settlments in Canyonu, in Hacilar, Catalhoyuk, are the first urban settlements known to man. During the 5th and 3rd centuries B.C. the Assyrian populations arose, already involved in the commercial vortex.
Between the 8th and 20th centuries, the Ottoman Empire was the clear dominating force in the history of Turkey, Anatolia, the Middle East, part of Africa, and of Eastern Europe, all formed part of this empire. Then, the capital was called Constantinople, and today is called Istanbul.
Jumping through time, much has changed sine then, as it went from being one of the most powerful empires on earth, and then transformed into Turkey in 1923, with Kemal Ataturk as the maximum exponent. This ocurred through the debacle that the Ottoman Empire faced through WWI. |
